Welcome to Corporate Kinks!

Hey curlfriends! My name is DM, I am a civil litigation attorney in Atlanta, and I have a TWA in the most awkward of stages.  As you may have guessed, the struggle has been all kinds of real, and the gorgeous women with big unruly afros and nose rings and black lip stains on all of my favorite natural hair pages have done nothing to help (except that I will admit to ordering a clip-on septum piercing online for weekend use only so that strangers can think I’m edgy with an idgaf attitude, which I will promptly remove before Monday morning when I return to my office with an I-definitely-do-gaf about this salary and benefits attitude).  So I created Corporate Kinks.

Corporate Kinks is a place for inspiration, tips and support for the modern-day corporate naturalista.  Our natural hair journey is tricky.  It’s not always as simple as throwing on a headscarf and walking out the door when your curls aren’t cooperating.  Most of us can’t stroll into the office with a head full of bantu knots.  Instead, we have to navigate safe protective styles (the 32″ extra jumbo marley twists are probably not going to work), subtle hair accessories (“if the flower clip matches my blouse, does that make it more or less professional…?”) and appropriate hair colors (not today, ombre).

I am excited to create a network of professionals to share our experiences, our ideas, and our daily struggles in balancing natural hair care and a career.

One more thing: you’ll see SFW (Safe for Work) in many of our posts.  SFW means the featured styles or products can be safely incorporated into your regimen with little to no side-eyeing or touching by coworkers.

Please follow us on Instagram (@corporatekinks) for even more inspiration and tips.

I’m so excited about this site. It’s definitely one heck of an experience trying to remain professional in an office where I’m the only black woman and newly natural. It’s a relief to find women who can relate.

Girlllll I hear you! I’m also the only black woman at my firm. It can get really stressful. We got it though!

Wow love this site and it’s purpose. Living in a predominantly “white” country my hair is often looked upon in awe and admiration but I still need to keep it at a certain level when I hit the office. So although I can get away with Bantu knots or unruly wash and go or even a hair scarf I insist on representing in order to pave a path for other naturals to follow. So we shall see how it goes…keep up the good work!
