The Natural Hair Trilemma
In economics, there’s this thing called the Trilemma, also known as the Impossible Trinity. Don’t worry. This isn’t an economics lecture (but kudos to those of you who found your economics course intriguing and not a supply/demand nightmare).
Basically, it’s a theory that says you can’t adapt three monetary policy positions all at the same time. It’s just not possible. By picking any two, you are automatically giving up the third. See intense chart below.

So for those of us who aren’t practicing economists and dozed off a little after reading “monetary policy positions,” fear not! The Trilemma has been remixed a bunch of times to cover just about every situation you can imagine. But the principle is the same: picking any two means you are giving up the third. Here are some of our favorites:

We took the basic trilemma principle and came up with *drum roll* The Natural Hair Trilemma:
As natural professionals, it feels like there are always trade-offs to make when it comes to our hair. We have limited time, and time is money. Let’s say you decide to be extra jazzy for a month at work and switch up your hair every three or four days. In order to keep things convenient, you may have to take some shortcuts (e.g., skip the deep conditioning sesh and sit under the dryer a couple times a week).
Or, if you opt for rocking all your jazzy new do’s while keeping your hair as healthy as possible, convenience is likely out the window since almost all of your free time will be spent twisting or braiding or bantu knotting.
Is there a way to try a bunch of different styles, without having to devote hours on end to our hair, all while keeping it healthy?
What do you guys think? Can you only pick two for any certain period of time? If so, which two do you typically choose? And if you’ve cracked The Natural Hair Trilemma code, please share your magic with us muggles.

The natural hair trilemma is too real for me. There is nothing convenient about having healthy hair. Convenience & versatility always seems to get the best of me.
Totally off point, I love your Instagram page! Real hardworking women with beautiful hair I can relate with! Good job! Back to topic, I think we can have it all. Style versatility, healthy hair and convenience! There are beautiful natural hairstyles that protect the hair and can be done under 30mins.
I’m a grad student majoring in medical microbiology with a full time lab job and have learnt how to kinda juggle all three.
