What’s your name and where are you from?
My name is Elle (“L”) which is short for Danielle. I’m from Brooklyn, NY.
- How can we connect with you on social media? (We promise to limit our creeping.)
Ig: @adorned_; FB: Elle Edwards
- What do you do and how long have you been in your field?
I’m an in-house attorney with a large retailer. July 1, 2015 marks my second year with my company in the capacity of an attorney. I’ve been admitted to practice law since September 2013.
- What is your favorite thing about your job?
The dynamic work!! I have the unique opportunity of working with multiple departments throughout the day. So, I’m jumping from marketing contracts for upcoming events to software licensing agreements with IS to large scale construction projects with Facilities and everything in between.
Have you always been natural? If not, when did you start your journey and how (i.e., big chop or transition)? I’ve been natural since 2007 when it was odd to rock your “nappy” hair. I was forced into the big chop by an experienced stylist who improperly applied relaxer to my hair. At the time, I thought it was the worst day of my life but now I’m grateful.
- What is your hair type?
3c mostly with some 4a thrown in for fun.
- Describe your hair in three words.
Big. Bigger. Biggest! Really, you do not want to sit behind me at a concert. Most of my hair management is keeping the volume at a minimum.
- How much time do you spend on your hair each day during the work week?
I spend 5 to 15 minutes a day. Most days, I’m just taking it out of a pineapple and slapping oil in it. If I’ve styled it the day before or failed to put it up before sleeping then I cowash it which takes an additional 15 minutes.

- How much time do you spend on your hair over the weekend?
Normally I shampoo, condition, detangle and moisturize my hair on Sunday which takes me about 25 minutes.
- Do you have a night time routine? If so, what is it?
I’m too laid back for anything complicated. I don’t have satin pillows or cute leopard bonnets. I usually just throw my hair in a pineapple and that’s it.
- What is your “go-to” hairstyle for work?
Wash and go. It’s quick and easy.
- Tell us your #1 absolutely-cannot-live-without-it haircare product.
I switch products regularly, but the staple that I always have is coconut oil. My hair loves it.
- If you had to give one of these things up for your hair for a month, which one would you choose: Healthy Hair, Style Versatility, or Convenience?
Style Versatility
If you could switch careers for a day, what would you do?
I would be a tour guide somewhere adventurous and amazing like El Yunque
- Do you have any Corporate Kinks hair crushes? (Come on, you can tell us.)
I plead the fifth. 😉
- Do you have any unique SFW (safe-for-work) hair advice for other naturals in your field?
Don’t be afraid! I get complimented at work non-stop for my hair, and the bigger it is, the more they love it.
